Leaders in Safe Construction is signing up contractors to reduce fall and silica hazards on construction sites. Our program engages Massachusetts builders and contractors employing Latino construction workers. We will work with you to set up systems to identify hazards where falls are likely to happen and when workers are likely to be breathing in silica dust. Then we will assist you in finding practical ways to control and prevent hazards. The Leaders program involves contractors in setting goals and giving feedback about how well you are doing at making your worksite safer.
If you are a contractor, you have a special opportunity now to enroll in our program. There is no cost to join. An added benefit of participants is that many of the Leaders planned activities are also required by OSHA, so this might help you be in compliance with the law.
How can contractors get involved?
This program is funded by Federal Government to help reduce illness and injury to Latino workers in the Lawrence area. The point of the program is to make everyone who works in construction safe. Therefore, any contractor that employs Latino workers is eligible for the program.
What are the benefits for builders and contractors?
There is no cost to contractors for this program; it is free. Many of the activities in the PenC program are also required by OSHA and your participation may help you to comply with the law.
Contractors will receive a Leaders in Safe Construction Certificate. This certificate will be marketed on local newspapers and radio stations as a way to help to find customers. Certification may help to find potential construction customers.
Participating contractors will improve safety at their worksites. This could reduce workplace accidents and might also lead to lower workers’ compensation insurance rates. Participating contractors will be identified as special businesses who care about workers health and safety.
