Outreach Team
The Outreach Team of community outreach workers, residents, non-profit groups, and city agencies performs research, outreach and education in the broader community. Key to outreach to the community is a team of Hispanic residents trained to engage workers, families, neighborhood, and community networks in support of the research and implementation plan. Community Survey To collect more information that would help PenC become successful, during fall and winter (2011), the Outreach Team is interviewing residents, construction workers and their family members through Lawrence and its surroundings. Outreach Team members will survey you to explore ideas about fall and silica hazards, as well as your suggestions to prevent them. The outreach members will be clearly identify as PenC members and you can find them at several places in Lawrence such as barbery shop, coffee shop, supermarket, etc. The main results will be presented to the community as soon as possible , and in next editions of the Protección en Construcción Newsletter we will present a summary. Charlas Protección en Construcción is sponsoring a series of community conversations or “charlas” in Lawrence to help build understanding between construction workers and government agencies concerned with working conditions. Charlas are informal conversations where people can learn more about their rights and programs to protect them. The first charla was led by our community outreach workers and Isabel López from MassCOSH (Massachusetts Coalition for Occupational Safety and Health). The second one included Carol Bates from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s regional office. Next charla will include Marvin Lewiton from the Massachusetts Division of Occupational Safety. Stay tuned and ask to our Outreach Team members for dates and places!
